Meet the Tudors!

Almost the whole ‘Representing Re-Formation’ team – including Dr Ford who had flown in from New Haven for the launch of the exhibition the previous evening – participated in the enormously enjoyable the ‘Meet the Tudors’ day on 7 September, organised by the Ancient House team and Thetford Council (special thanks to Melissa Hawker and Oliver Bone and to the Mayor, Stuart Wright) with support from Arts Council, England and the Heritage Lottery fund. The event opened with introductions from Oliver Bone, from me and from Elizabeth Truss MP, who also brought her delightfully well-informed daughters with her. Fortunately the weather was generally very good, and the Tudor bowling, minstrels, Tudor weapon handling, wool spinning, spice identifying and (hilarious) Tudor dancing went beautifully with our exhibition tours, Thetford Priory site visit and prototype App tours.
By mid-afternoon the King’s House gardens were thronged with visitors wand it was wonderful to see people of every age, creed and colour thoroughly entering into the spirit of the day. There was a terrifically entertaining mixture of talks from superb speakers such as Steve Gunn, interactive tours, and Tudor dancing. If this is research with a public impact, let’s do it again!
